"Given by God"


In our work with expectant parents who are facing an unplanned pregnancy, we have found that they have many needs. These needs may be material such as safe housing, food or transportation. They also may have emotional and spiritual needs including the need for counseling and guidance. We strive to provide for whatever needs they may have during such a challenging time. Like the verse in Jeremiah proclaims, He knows the plans he has for us, which includes the gifts of hope and a future. We want to provide expectant parents with a sense of hope and a future while helping them make a life-affirming choice for their baby. 

Our Amaris Home Project will provide assistance to expectant mothers by providing a safe and compassionate home in which they may reside during their pregnancy. With the assistance of staff and volunteers, expectant mothers will be given emotional support and spiritual guidance throughout their stay at the Amaris Home. They will also have access to support services including professional counseling, health care, educational services, job seeking services, parenting classes and support in other identified areas.  Whether they decide to parent their baby or place the child for adoption, they will be respected for their life giving choice for their baby.

The word Amaris is Hebrew for "given by God" and that is just what we believe our Amaris Home Project is to us.  A gift given by God to enable us to help expectant mothers make a loving choice for their babies. Not only is it a gift to us but also to the expectant mothers who will benefit from being able to find respite in our home while making these decisions. It is also a gift to the baby to be able to be provided with nuturing, safe and loving care while his or her mother is awaiting delivery. It is a gift to the adoptive families who may be blessed with caring for the child in the future. And, most importantly, it is the "gift of life", given by God, to these little babies.
