First and
foremost, we want you to know that we respect and affirm your ability to
seek out options for your baby. An unexpected or unplanned pregnancy
can be a very difficult and trying time and we honor your decision to
seek out information about adoption.
The adoption process can seem like a daunting experience however it can
offer hope for an unborn baby and give you an option that affirms your
belief that your baby deserves a chance in life.
When you contact us, we will talk with you about your options including
adoption or parenting a child. We will also ask you questions about how
you envision the adoption process. We will want to meet with you so that
we can understand your needs and formulate an adoption plan, if you
decide to place your child for adoption.
During
your pregnancy, we will meet with you to discuss what type of adoption
you would like to have for your baby and what type of family you are
interested in placing your baby with. We can accompany you on doctor's
visits and will help you make a birthing plan.
If you need assistance with transportation, housing and food, we may be
able to help with these needs. We will also provide you with access to a
licensed therapist who can help you explore your feelings related to
the adoption. Your counselor will also provide you with material to help
you understand the adoption process.
When
you are in your third trimester, we will begin to match you with our
families. You will review photos and letters from adoptive families who
are waiting for a baby to be placed with them. Once you pick a family,
we will arrange for a meeting so that you can meet them. These meetings
are usually in our office to respect the confidentiality of adoption.
After the baby is born, you will sign forms giving your consent to place
the child in adoption. These forms cannot be signed until after 48
hours has passed. Once the baby is placed with the adoptive family, you
will receive updates of the baby's progress if you have chosen this
option. You will also be able to participate in counseling after the
placement has occurred.
